Step-by-step guide
How to export your WhatsApp chat
WhatsApp lets you save any conversation as a text file (.txt) or a zip (.zip). That file is what you import into ChatFlash. Pick the option without media: the export stays tiny, and the stats don't need photos or videos.
On Android
.txt- Open WhatsApp and go into the chat you want to analyze.
- Tap the More options icon (⋮) in the top right.
- Tap More and then Export chat.
- Choose Without media (“Include media” works too, but the file gets way heavier).
- Pick how to send it to yourself (email, Drive, Notes…). The chat arrives as a .txt file (or a .zip); save it on your phone, usually in Downloads.
On iPhone
.zip- Open WhatsApp and go into the chat you want to analyze.
- Tap the contact or group name right at the top.
- Scroll all the way down and tap Export chat.
- If the chat has photos or videos, choose Without media (the other option is “Attach media”).
- Tap Save to Files (you'll find it in the Files app) or share it with yourself however you like.
On iPhone you get a .zip with the chat inside (usually “_chat.txt”). No need to unzip it: import it as-is and ChatFlash finds the conversation inside. View-once messages aren't exported.
If the menus don't match
WhatsApp changes its menus every now and then, so the exact wording may differ a bit in your version. If you can't find the option, check WhatsApp's official Help Center.
What about my privacy?
Your chat content is analyzed on your own device. The file isn't uploaded to any server: it's opened and analyzed right in your browser.
